Billing/Insurance

Insurances We Accept:

As a clinic, MCP is contracted with most major insurance companies including Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) of Minnesota, Evernorth (formerly Cigna Behavioral Health), HealthPartners, Medicare, Minnesota Health Care Programs (Medical Assistance) including PMAP plans, Optum (Medica, United Behavioral Health, United Healthcare/UMR), PreferredOne, and UCare.

The acceptance of specific insurances does vary among individual providers. Please contact your insurance company prior to beginning services to determine your eligibility and coverage.

Some helpful questions you can ask insurance:

  • What are my mental health benefits (deductible, out-of-pocket maximum, copayment, co-insurance)?

  • Is my provider in-network or out-of-network?

  • Are there any limits or exclusions to coverage?

  • What services are covered versus not covered?

  • Do I need a referral from my Primary Care Physician (PCP)?

Sliding Scale/Self-Pay:

Our clinic does not have a specific policy regarding a sliding scale fee as all of our providers are independent contractors; however, many of our clinicians are open to self-pay clients and arrange self-pay agreements on a case-by-case basis.

For self-paying clients, good faith estimates of expected charges are available upon scheduling or upon request.

• If you schedule a service at least 3 business days in advance, our office must provide you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule a service at least 10 business days in advance, our office must provide you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after scheduling. You can also ask us for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you do, our office must provide you with a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.

• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate and the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers, email FederalPPDRQuestions@cms.hhs.gov, or call 1800-985-3059.

Automated Payment Options:

MCP utilizes a PCI DSS compliant, third-party vendor to securely retain credit card information and to process authorized payments.

If you are interested in having a credit card charged automatically as your balance accrues or if you would like to set up automatic recurring payments, please reach out to our billing team at 651-644-4100 for further information.

What is Coordination of Benefits (COB) and why is it important?

Sometimes, two or more insurance plans work together to cover the cost of services. Insurance companies coordinate benefits to avoid duplicate payments and overpayments and to establish the order in which insurance plans should pay.

It is important to inform your health insurance carrier anytime you or anyone on your plan adds or drops other health insurance. Often times, insurance sends you a form asking if you have more than one health insurance plan. It is important to respond to this form, even if the answer is no.

If you do not confirm your existing coordination of benefits with your insurance carrier when they send you a request, or if you do not update your insurance carrier when you add or drop other health insurance, your insurance company may deny coverage of services until you do so, leaving you responsible for 100% of the cost of services.
