DBT Skills Groups for Young Adults

The young adult DBT skills groups are for individuals between the ages of 18-23 diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder traits. Clients in skills group are required to see a DBT individual therapist.  Skills group is similar to taking a class.  Clients learn and practice skills from four different modules:

MINDFULNESS

Focuses on quality of attention and awareness.

DISTRESS TOLERANCE

Focuses on getting through a time of distress/crisis without doing anything to make the situation worse.

INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Focuses on initiating/maintaining/repairing relationships, effectively making requests, setting boundaries and increasing/maintaining self-respect.

EMOTION REGULATION

Focuses on decreasing emotional sensitivity/intensity, preventing unwanted emotions from starting and stopping or reducing unwanted emotions once they start.

There are two young adult skills groups that meet once a week on Mondays from 5:00-7:30pm or Wednesdays from 12-2:30pm.  Clients are generally asked to commit to one year of skills group.

An intake assessment will be completed with each individual interested in receiving DBT services.

Most types of insurance are accepted, as is private pay. Please contact your insurance company to determine your level of coverage.
